Before & After: Baked Lays - Updated

Baked_lays_sour_cream_onion Lays
Great post from our friends at BrandNew on the redesigned Baked Lays packaging. Check it out here. Images from Twig & Thistle.

Additional details about the design was sent in by Hornall Anderson and Frito-Lay:

"We at Hornall Anderson partnered with Frito-Lay to redesign & package its Baked! product line to specifically target women looking for a healthier alternative in the snack aisle. We carefully evaluated the shelf set in the chip aisle, women centric products in grocery and other categories, color palettes to determine just how to communicate “healthy” and/or “better for you.”  We landed on a natural color palette of cream and brown as the primary and consistent link across the line of products.  Appetite appeal was a core goal of the design.  Yes, it must look healthy, but without taste sacrifice.  It was primarily delivered through stellar product photography.  The reproduction was a challenge since the printing requirement was Flexography, but the print and preproduction partners really pulled it off.  The other factor for appetite appeal was the prominent display of the product logos (Tostitos, Lays, Cheetos etc).  Whether, we as “designers” liked it or not, it became clear early on in testing that the brand logos (Tostitos, Lays, Cheetos, etc.) really do contribute to and impact the positive overall appetite appeal of the product.  The packages have just recently hit the store shelves and are performing well according to our team at Frito-Lay.  We certainly learned a lot, challenged our opinions, our perspectives and ultimately delivered a design that conveys Healthy and Delicious Snacking for women"

Luda Galchenko created this project while studying at BHSAD (British Higher School of Art and Design) in Moscow, Russia.

"PROXY is a laundry powder concept targeted at male audience. The primary task was to create a pack that makes washing simple. The oxygen formula of the powder recognizes and removes all kind of dirt. The SKU line is categorized by the product form: capsules, bags and powder concentrate. The product is effective and easy to use. All the information is placed on the package's front side, the SKU features are described by a set of pictograms."

I saw the new packaging for Bath and Body Works signature line a few weeks ago when I was out shopping and wrote them to inquire about the redesign.

This is what they had to say:

"The Signature Collection restage launched in 400 stores in the Eastern half of the United States and rolled nationwide in early February. This preliminary launch helped us test and learn to roll out the remaining 1200 stores successfully.

This relaunch has improved the perception of Bath and Body Works through more sophisticated packaging, improved formulas and new and improved in-store marketing and navigation."

lite2go

Lite2go_wm

Knoend, an ecodesign studio in San Francisco created this product and packaging. Actually, the packaging is the product:

"lite2go is an innovative lamp that eliminates packaging. When the lamp is assembled, the packaging itself becomes the shade for the light bulb and fixture contained within. It is designed to be versatile in use as either a pendant or a table lamp.

It includes an electric cord and a 7w energy efficient CFL bulb so it is a one-step, ready-to-use solution. The lite2go offers surprise and elegance in a simple and lightweight package.

The lamp is 10" x 11" x 10" when assembled.
Materials: Recyclable Polypropylene Shades, 7 W CFL light bulb, standard electric cord and socket, recycled paper label and manual, hemp twine for assembly."
