Wurrook

Wurrook_WM

Elmwood, a multidisciplinary firm with offices across the world, sent in this packaging the Melbourne branch recently created for a local farmer:

"We designed and printed our pack for a local farmer/lamb producer. The box contains cuts of lamb that are plastic cryovac sealed, labelled up and placed in their cardboard box with branded sleeve. The brand story, as below:

Paul & Kylie Walton own a one hundred and fifty year old sheep farm in country Victoria that has been in their family for four generations. Their farm is set on 7,500 acres and they have 22,000 Superfine Merino sheep that have superior wool and meat using no growth promotants. Due to their growing success at the Farmers Markets they attend, they required a box and label packaging concept that would capture the uniqueness of their product and enable them to move forward into the retail sector.

They had no previous packaging or labeling other than a generic sticker, which was produced from a weight labeling machine at their home. The packaging needed to communicate the history, quality, unique stock bloodlines and other special features of the product that is only available from the producers, Wurrook Superfine Prime. Importantly, the resultant packaging had to be cheap to produce.

A sleeve was designed with new branding that could slip over the cardboard box negating the need to have a costly printed box. The new ‘Wurrook’ logo was created (using a level of crafting resonant with fine wines and cheese) but reduced in size, making the Victorian sky, grass and sheep effectively the brand. Product clarity is gained via sheep illustrations on the individual labels to easily inform which part of the sheep the cut’s derive from."

Picked in June Olive Oil

Olive-oil copy

Lovely work from Watts Design, Melbourne, Australia. Designed by Peter Watts.

"Watts Design, Melbourne, Australia is brand specialist creating packaging for all types of products. This example is a new brand, Picked in June, created for the boutique olive oil market that has exploded in Australia. The photography is from the actual property in Central Victoria, Australia. We thought it unique to convey the feeling of winter surrounds rather than focus on the olive grove."

Student Spotlight: Meg Eaton

-5 copy-6 copy-4 copy-7 copy-8 copy

Two beautiful concepts designed by Meg Eaton, a recent graduate of the Communications Design program at Syracuse University:

"Chumbi is the solution to bland and boring flavors of ice cream like vanilla or butter pecan. Chumbi offers a variety of unique flavor combinations for adventurous eaters like garlic mojito, tomato parmigiano or black cherry zucchini. The quirky design is reflective of the balancing act of unusual flavors and the colorful elephant acts kind of like a bizarre mascot.

Mambajamba is a new kind of animal cracker that pairs two fun flavors together. Cinnamon & Honey, Caramel & Vanilla or Original & Pink frosted are a few of the varieties. The cookies are packaged in two separate compartments that flip backwards to reveal a pop-up animal. The packaging also aims to educate kids about different species of animals. The different eyes on the front of each box as well as the fun facts on left side of the box act as hints to indicate which animal will pop-up on the inside!"

A new egg packaging concept designed by Lindsey Faye Sherman:

"Reintroducing a classic packaging concept, I designed an egg carton container engineered for maximum storage, usability and protection of the stored product. Equipped with individually perforated cups this container will allow you to store and travel with your eggs with ease."

Beeline Honey

Another lovely honey package! This one comes from Kym Abrams Design:

"North Lawndale Employment Network (NLEN) is a nonprofit organization that creates innovative employment initiatives in a distressed Chicago neighborhood. It was developing a line of honey products to provide training and jobs for ex-offenders, and asked Kym Abrams Design to help with naming and branding. The new line was intended to launch in upscale farmers’ markets, and, once established, move into grocery stores."

Before & After: Walker's Sensations

Sensations, a popular Irish potato chip brand, recently overhalled its design from a traditional white background to a more humble black background with a creative "S" logo. The "S" is comprized of the ingredients used for each specific flavor. It invokes natural flavors, using the image of the ingredients descending from the heavens.
