Coco Juice: The Creative Process

Designed by Blue Marlin Brand Design Group, Coco Juice is an intriguing new product on the market, coconut water! They were very kind to share the entire design process with TheDieline.com's readers!

The Creative Brief:

Dr. Martins is a real person - a Brazilian nutritionist with an entrepreneurial spirit. Armed with the knowledge that coconut milk is loaded with healthy electrolytes, and the fact that this milk is very easily absorbed into the body, Dr. Martin’s set out to create a new brand.

The briefed focused on the exoticism of Brazil, where the product was born, as well as the natural essence of the product itself. (Typically electrolytes are delivered in “sport” or “science” oriented packages.) We focused on the origin of the product and with the mode of absorption, water.

Here are the versions leading up to the final design:

The Final Packaging:

I think overall Blue Marlin not only successfully fulfilled the necessities of the creative brief, they delivered a truly beautiful design that emphasizes the tropical and healthy aspects of the product.

Antipodes

Antipodes2

antipodes sparkling spring water comes from New Zealand. In their words, "New Zealand Water, across the board is renowned for its purity. Antipodes is amongst the most pure. Antipodes comes to the surface from a deep aquifer and is bottled at source in Whakatane, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand." Spare, minimal and beautiful of form, these bottles are a great example of 'fancy water' (as I like to call it - is there an official name? snob water?) If you're interested, the whole phenomenon of fancy water is discussed by our friends at brandonblog.

International Currency Bills

76iranb

I've always wondered who designs the world's currency? The intricate fine engraving required to build a hard-to-counterfeit bill is a special art unto itself. Cigar box labels are full of beautiful detailing, too. I think this type of handiwork is something to learn from when designing anything for the luxury market. The beautiful flourishes and detailing might just inspire your next liqueur or wine label.

I Was Attacked By Predatory Packaging

Here is a great article contributed to TheDieline.com by our friend, JoAnn R. Hines, Packaging Diva.

Predatory packaging it’s out there -- and it’s everywhere. It could be targeting you, your family, -- your loved ones. We have heard those terms bandied about, but just what exactly is predatory packaging?

It seems everyone has a different perception what this means. Similar nomenclature could include the terms misleading or deceptive packaging or packaging that promises one thing and delivers another. But simply put it’s when any group or person deems a package is using unsavory marketing/advertising practices to lure consumers to purchase their products -- and it has been going on for a long time.

Remember when in 1988, R.J. Reynolds introduced its Joe Camel cartoon icon to market Camel cigarettes? The fervor came from everyone from...

Cartondruck - Luxury Box Maker

Where are all those beautiful fragrance and high-end confectionery boxes manufactured? One of the top high-end box makers is the German company, Cartondruck. I had the pleasure of working with them in the past, and from what I can see, they continue to uphold an excellent name in the industry. Special effects like embossing, patented constructions, and special materials are some of the techniques used to take packaging to the next level.

Here are some examples of their work.
